Teleshow by Dr. Sharp is an experimental video directed by Artur Matuck, using Slow Scan equipment set up at the MIS’ facilities and shown continuously during the Festival.
The piece combines video and audio signals into a single Slow Scan channel, causing image and sound alternate in the monitor. When the sound kicks in, the image stops and vice versa. In order for sound and image to be produced simultaneously, two channels would have to be used. The use of one single channel enabled effects that explore resources unique to the Slow Scan.
The piece shows Willoughby Sarp, one of the teleculture pioneers, discussing the emerging culture of electronic media for planetary communication.
