The presence of American producers Daniel Minahan and Aysha Quinn at the 6th Fotoptica Videobrasil Festival contributed to the exchange of experiences and ideas that have characterized the event since its first edition.

At the invitation of Geraldo Anhaia Mello, the independent producer and artist Daniel Minahan brought along two important productions that have already travelled Europe and the United States: Hart Island Chronology and Aesthetics and/or Transportation, two experiments in combining reality and fiction. At the Festival, following the screening of the videos, the artist spoke with the audience.

Minahan graduated from the School of Video Arts in New York and is from a generation of young video artists who inherited the pioneering spirit of the 1960s. He is the video and art programming director for media center The Kitchen, founded in 1971 by Woody and Steina Vasoulka in the Soho, New York, then an avant-garde stronghold.

Although this was his first visit to Brazil, Minahan was already aware of national video productions. In January 1989, he plans on hosting a Brazilian video exhibit at The Kitchen and then having it travel to the main American cities.
