A Flexible Market

Video does not mean TV only. Under this knowledge, in the last 20 years a number of iniciatives have popped throughout the world to spread or broadcast works that do not necessarily belong in the TV context. Such initiaves have something in common: the belief that artist and independent producers have their place in the creation of works that somehow will broaden the concept of this media.

Institutions and individuals have set up a unique international network of cultural exchange. What some considered to be an alternative Market has become the main Market for many. The key to this ever increasing contact is video’s mobility.

The positive side to this event goes far beyond the debates held there. It lies in contact that may open two-way doors and led to trusting relationships. Brazil has played its part in this exchange not only through a few individual efforts but also through this Festival. This is the time and oppotunity to pave the road for South-South communications and to bridge the gap between North and South.
