She has a background in sculpture and lived in the United States for several years, but returned to her native country in 1994, where she developed her own production and dedicated herself to cultural endeavors focusing on human development and on efforts to improve the living conditions of the Honduran population. To this end, she created the San Juancito Foundation, in the namesake mining village, to provide cultural, artistic and professional training to youths and children. The idea came up after the passing of Hurricane Mitch, considered the worst in 200 years in Central America, which destroyed around sixty houses in the small village. Aguilar then decided to receive the children in her house and studio for a series of cultural activities, in a bid to exorcize the horror of the catastrophe from them. Later she opened the In Vitro store, in Tegucigalpa, which sells the Foundation’s products, making it self-sustained. Almost twenty years later, the Foundation has trained several young artists who now have their own studios and solo careers.
