The work is an emotionally grounded exploration of audiovisual material from the National Archives in Washington, D.C., USA. Drawing from the results of a search using the key word “Colombia,” this video installation creates a dialogue between North American archive footage and other images recorded in Colombia. With optical effects based on reflections, spots, and modified video monitors, the work takes us on a voyage across Caribbean seas on a Colombian ship in 1982 to the battle of independence from Spain, some two hundred years earlier.
