Inserted into footage of a busy roadside at night, like any other inner-city roadway anywhere in the world, we see a shot of a street-dweller who is trying to settle comfortably beneath a blanket. Playing with the patterns left by the passing headlights and with the artificial feel of the image, which resembles something out of a videogame, the work intensifies the sensation of discomfort that defines the scene. It’s a hard-hitting metaphor for social invisibility and the perverse processes of exclusion at work in the contemporary city.
