Escalator was commissioned by the Riverside Studio's Gallery of London, and in 1988 was showns for the first time.

"Escalator grew from a single image of a woman of uncertain age, living on an undergroud station which I used daily", says Tina. There are 11 pairs of monitores "in steps" where we see the people who "go up" escalators constrated with scenes of homeless in London.
