Discovering sensations

“This installation deals with the different ways love reveals itself”, writes Inês Cardoso, in an attempt to describe the video-installation she created for the 11th Videobrasil Festival. Inês, a researcher in multimedia, as she defines herself, has been working with multiple elements (video is always present)for no more than two years and has already shown her work in important scenarios and international festivals throughout the world. Her latest creation, Daragóy, is a meticulous collage using different elements and expressions, each one chosen as colored shells on a deserted beach. TV, video, sound, an acrylic box, two chairs, a simple phrase repeated in five languages. An intimate telephone conversation with heartbeats in the background. She, herself, immersed in the acrylic box with a HI-8 camera. A poem by Harold Bloom speaks of love, happiness and agony. An intense light in a sealed white room. The images displayed are a reminder that life outside continues…

the ease in which Inês Cardoso unites elements of such a varied nature is an insistent plea to curiosity. Preoccupation with the meanings of words is also predominant. Each phrase has a weighed meaning, and an acute poetical presence emanates from her universe full of symbols, concepts, sentiments and love. An instigating invitation for a journey through our sensations.
