The performance Poesia é Risco (Poetry is Risk), by Augusto de Campos, Cid Campos and Walter Silveira, presented at the Theater, was designed by its authors as a "verbal vocal visual event," combining poem readings, instrumental electronic music, singing and video footage.

On the same day, the authors launched the "Poesia Risco" CD, in which poem readings and music interact.

New directions for old habits

The well known restlessness of concrete poet Augusto de Campos has already identified him as a creative explorer on the limits of poetry and the spoken word. Together with video artist Walter Silveira, author of the collaborated TV Preparado AC/JC, and his audacious and creative, techno-musical son, Cid Campos, it has become possible to realize an old project that unites poetry, music, computers and electronic resources. Poesia é risco is inspired on the necessity to salvage the habit, common in the 50’s, of the poets reciting their own poems. Defined by the authors as a “verbicovisual event”, in reality it is a performance already edited on C, in which the authors themselves execute a unique recital interacting with electronic music, song and videographic images. In their own words it is a “poetry-music interpenetration” or “oralization” – an audio projection of  “nearly-singing” or “spokensung” texts. The objective is to explore the dramatic potentiality of the spoken word and promote a restructuring of poetry through the combination of reading, superimposing and fragmenting words and assembling citations with the aid of computer resources, synthesizers, samplers and multichannel recordings. Or as the authors clarify, “to create with the use of the new technologies and by way of functional and innovative interpretations an intimate relation between poetry/music/video, establishing new dimensions for the recital of poetry -  its oralization.
