The Educational Curated Program of the 17th International Contemporary Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil set out to promote broader, deeper contact of different audiences with the ideas and artwork featured in Southern Panoramas and Olafur Eliasson – Your Body of Work.

Thorough investigation of participating artists’ artwork and production processes gave rise to themes and languages which inspired seminars, talks, workshops, courses, and studio-visits for adults, children, young people, families, educators, students, and art fans—as well as guided tours available during the entire Festival.

Southern Panoramas

A contemporary art training course built around the Videobrasil Video Library and targeting teachers opened the Festival’s educational program at SESC Pinheiros.

The SESC_Videobrasil Meetings held at SESC Belenzinho gave a retrospective of the Festival, with a selection of works arranged into the thematic and curatorial sections of Southern Panoramas: nature and culture, political landscapes, emotional mappings, and optical devices.

The seminars and courses had active Southern Hemisphere artists, curators, and researchers tackle issues involved in art production, circulation, education, and critique, focusing in four topics: art education, curatorship, publications, and the formation of institutional networks. Children participated in studio-visits and were given a publication entitled Nas rotas da arte: Um diário de visita [Along the routes of art: A visitation diary].

Olafur Eliasson: Your body of work

The Spatial Experiments Studio was set up at SESC Pompeia as an invitation to experimentation, incorporating the practices and investigations Olafur Eliasson engages in at his Institute for Spatial Experiments in Berlin, Germany.

Key themes in Eliasson’s work provided the guidelines for a schedule of talks, workshops, and minicourses for students, educators, and art fans, in addition to workshops for young people.

Children and families took part in a circuit of open-ended stories and game-visits. The publication Dentro-fora – Caderno de investigações da exposição [Inside-outside – Exhibition investigation notebook] provided children with a script of the key issues in Eliasson’s production, focusing on the space and the processes involved in artistic creation.
