The Distruktur duo is formed by artists Gustavo Jahn (Florianópolis, 1980) and Melissa Dullius (Porto Alegre, 1981). They operate at the intersection of film, photography, installation and performance, mostly employing analog media such as 16mm film. The exploration of the physicality of film is a key feature of their work, through perceptible visual traces left by its manipulation. Through open-ended narratives based on hesitant gestures of signification, their film-performances build atmospheres charged with the materiality that sustains them, prompting reflection on the current state of cinematic media. The duo has been featured in international exhibitions and festivals including the Tiradentes Film Festival (2015); Moscow International Film Festival, Russia (2014, 2011 and 2010); Torino Film Festival, Italy (2013); Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius, Lithuania (2013); New Museum, New York, USA (2010); Paço das Artes, São Paulo (2011); Berlinale, Berlin, Germany (2009); and others. Gustavo Jahn and Melissa Dullius live and work in Berlin.
