Rio de Janeiro-based group Chelpa Ferro explores the plasticity of the sound and silence of sound sources in performances, installations and objects. Founded in 1995 by artists Barrão, Luiz Zerbini and Sergio Mekler as a result of a common desire to make music, the collective featured in the biennials of Havana (2003), São Paulo (2002, 2004) and Venice (2005), among other exhibitions. In the sixth documentary in the Videobrasil Authors Collection series, Carlos Nader portrays the group as it assembled exhibitions TOTORO, at the Art Gallery (Pinacoteca) of the State of São Paulo, and Jungle Jam, at the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, both in 2008. In the extra features, curator Moacir dos Anjos discusses Chelpa Ferro’s “art of noise” in an exclusive interview, while footage of nine presentations and exhibitions held from 2003 to 2009 illustrate key points in the trio’s career.

The work is part of Videobrasil Authors Collection series. Further info on this project in our website.
