Nomadisms: A Tribute to Waly Salomão DVD | Brazil-SP | 2003 Driven by the need to excel the limits of written language and to take the poetic practice to other creative fields, Waly Salomão (1944-2003) approached electronic languages since their origins in Brazil. Although not so known as his participations in Brazilian music and plastic arts, the poet’s video incursions include remarkable moments, such as the collaboration with Carlos Nader, the poems contaminated by the electronic repertoire, and the performance “Bestiário Masculino-Feminino”, which took place in the 12th Festival, em 1998. Waly circulated in the Videobrasil circuit from 1996 up to a few days before his death, in 2003, when he helped in the articulation of the concept “Deslocamentos”, curatorial axis of this new edition, as a member of the Curatorial Committee. Now, with the DVD “Nomadismos: Homenagem a Waly Salomão”, Associação Cultural Videobrasil tries to get into step with the vitality of his presence and the influence he exerted on video world. Besides registers of his performances practically unseen in Brazil, the DVD gathers posthumous homages to Waly by some of the most prominent Brazilian video artists – Eder Santos, Lucas Bambozzi and Marcelo Tas –, and historical moments, such as the encounter with the poet Paulo Leminski, from the state of Paraná, recorded by the Olhar Eletrônico production company in 1983. It still brings Walys’ partnerships with Carlos Nader, poems he wrote when was still flirting with electronic art, the key songs in his work, and registers of his passages on TV and journeys – such as that he did to Beirut in 1999 to participate in the Ayloul Electronic Art Festival, which was part of the research process that resulted in the “Narrativas Possíveis” show, one of the axes in the 14th Videobrasil. Undertaking: Associação Cultural Videobrasil. General direction: Solange Farkas. Authoring and video edition: Marco Del Fiol and Mão Esquerda. Art direction: Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain. Production: Thiago Venco
