Behind the Scenes features of the Festival | November 1990

The 8th edition of the Festival marked the consolidation of video in the Brazil through achievements in independent production and a close dialogue with television. Here, Fernando Barbosa Lima comments on the early days, highlighting the importance of independent production and the role of Embratel in Brazilian TV. Once a field had been established for video production in Brazil, the Festival began to foster North-South dialogue by going international. Solange Farkas, the Festival’s organizer, comments on the new phase of Videobrasil alongside artists, producers and curators, including Arlindo Machado, Carlos Trilnik, Jean-Marie Duhard, Ana de Skalon, Augusto Gangorra, Pierre Bongiovanni, Tom Van Vliet. Finally, the Behind the Scenes features provide an overview of the participation of international guests with shows, video installations, workshops and lectures during the 8th edition.
