The 8th edition of the Festival marked the consolidation of video in the Brazil through achievements in independent production and a close dialogue with television. Here, Fernando Barbosa Lima comments on the early days, highlighting the importance of independent production and the role of Embratel in Brazilian TV. Once a field had been established for video production in Brazil, the Festival began to foster North-South dialogue by going international. Solange Farkas, the Festival’s organizer, comments on the new phase of Videobrasil alongside artists, producers and curators, including Arlindo Machado, Carlos Trilnik, Jean-Marie Duhard, Ana de Skalon, Augusto Gangorra, Pierre Bongiovanni, Tom Van Vliet.
