The first edition of the Videobrasil in Context project was held by Associação Cultural Videobrasil in a partnership with the Delfina Foundation and Casa Tomada. For three months, the artists Cláudio Bueno and Mahmoud Khaled, selected via a call for entries, undertook residencies at those organizations. In São Paulo, they each explored the Videobrasil Collection and shaped up their research. In London, they developed their projects and showcased, at the Whitechapel Gallery, the Videobrasil Collection pieces that served as mileposts in creating their commissioned artworks.
São Paulo, Brazil
Established in 2009 as a standalone facility for art practices, inquiries and reflection, Casa Tomada is one of the earliest artist residencies in São Paulo. Aiming to encourage debate on contemporary art processes, in addition to housing the production of hands-on and theoretical work, Casa Tomada operates as a catalyst space for experiences and connections between artists, researchers, organizations, and other initiatives.
London, UK
Established in 2007, the Delfina Foundation supports and facilitates the professional development of international artists, writers and curators, offering its residents a platform for incubating ideas before introducing them to the arts community and the public. The Delfina Foundation creates opportunities for upcoming and household artists to position their practices within a global discourse, develop research relevant to their careers, and build new personal connections.
