Being more and more recognized by the artistic institutions, the videoinstallation uses the electronic image technology as a basis to develop a contemporary art. The relationship between viewer and monitor changes in a given videoinstallation, as the 2-D image moves out of its plane and expands towards the outer space in order to bring up time and motion to the scenery. The presentation of the 11 videoinstallations, quite diversified among themselves, show the broad possibilities about what could be made and is a unique opportunity to know the work of internationally-renowned artists.

The videoinstallation Le Souffle du Temps, by Robert Cahen, was composed by lighted candles, cameras and live recorded images transmitted by several monitors, exploring the darkness as a representation of the waiting, of the surprise and of the emotions caused by the expectation.

Le Souffle du Temps

A circle of light on the floor. In the centre, a monitor close to the floor with the screen turned straight to the ceiling. A camera is hanged up over the monitor, It turns around itself filming the candles that form the circle of light in a closed plan. The image is transmitted by the central screen.

Behind the circle, fifteen small monitors are fixed up in a vertical axis. The supports pillars must be invisible with the monitors fixed at different highs. Each screen presents the image of one candle in the foreground.

At regular intervals a candle in he foreground (one for each monitor) damps down (sometimes few of them, sometimes all of them) and then lightens up again. A waft sound is heard giving the impression of blowing them out. The installations are obscure to enhance the light points of the monitor and the candle circle of the floor.

The general impression is that one feel when one opens a door and comes into a party: A mix of expectation, surprise and emotions. Poetry is born from the rupture between the dive into shadow and the situation of child that will blow the candles of a birthday cake.
