São Paulo city biggest event for the genre features selection presented at NY MoMA

Main São Paulo city-based event dedicated to Arabic film production, the Mostra Mundo Árabe de Cinema (Arab World Film Show) reaches its 7th edition with a selection that spans 50 years of movie production. The selection was made by Soraya Smaili, director of the São Paulo Institute of Arab Culture (organizer of the event), and Nagila Guimarães, having Lebanese Rasha Salti as guest curator. Salti is responsible for curating Mapping Subjectivity, with works that displays a panorama of Arab cinema from the 60′s until the present – a selection shown earlier at the New York MoMA with good response from critics. Some productions portray the political, social and cultural development of Arab countries and Brazilian works address themes related to Arab immigration to Brazil or the relationship between Brazil and the Arab and Muslim countries. In São Paulo, the show occupies CineSESC, Cinemateca and Cine Olido. In Rio de Janeiro it will be held at Instituto Moreira Salles. Click here for more information (in Portuguese).
