Videobrasil em Contexto Prize articulates historical archive in new modality of international residency, commissioning works based on Videobrasil Collection

After the successful experience of commissioning works through the Open Studio Prize in 2011, a new form of commissioning will deepen the experience of residency and intercultural contact, in addition to incorporating the Videobrasil Collection to the programming, in a deeper way: it is the first edition of the Videobrasil em Contexto Prize [Videobrasil in Context], part of the celebration for the 30th Anniversary of the International Contemporary Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil.

Through a partnership with the Delfina Foundation, London, and Casa Tomada, São Paulo, this award will activate the institution collection, turning it into input for research, reflection, and production, in addition to putting it in movement in innovative ways. Two researcher artists will be selected, one from Brazil and the other from one of the regions that comprise the focus of the Festival.

Over three months, divided into residencies in São Paulo and London, the artists’ development will depart from the contact with the local context and, more emphatically, from an immersive research on the Videobrasil Collection. At the moment of their residency in the UK, the artists will present the process of their investigations to the public. The resulting works will be displayed in Brazil, and the complete researches, the developments of which include an online publication, will also be incorporated into the collection.

The call for submission of proposals is open until June 15. Further information available at the Delfina Foundation and Casa Tomada websites.
