Rafael França on show at CCSP
Rafael França, an artist whose work is represented in Videobrasil’s Collection, is now featuring in the show Obra e documento – Arte/ Ação e 3nós3, at the CCSP, from August 25 to October 14. The show includes pieces by the two collectives, such as recordings, in photograph, video and printouts, of the appropriations and interventions that the two groups made in urban spaces and institutions.
A precursor of experiments combining art and technology, Rafael França built a career out of crossbreeding languages, leaving an indelible mark on Brazilian art. A pioneer in the artistic use of photocopies and a leading name in Brazilian video art experimentation, he had his work reviewed in Rafael França, Work as testament, a documentary released by Videobrasil in 2001 under the Authors Collection series. The documentary features artists such as Regina Silveira, one of his main supporters, Hudinilson Jr. and Mario Ramiro, his production partners in the 1970s, and the scholar Arlindo Machado.
