Videobrasil On Tour 2012-2013 proceeds with show at three different venues, featuring winning works of the 17th Festival

Due to open this evening, the show featuring highlights of contemporary art production is a part of Videobrasil On Tour 2012-2013 | Southern Panoramas – Winning works | 17th Contemporary International Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil. This 16-piece selection spanning Brazil, Lebanon, Israel, India, Bolivia, China, and Argentina, includes one installation, two paintings, seven video-installations, and videos, and it takes up three neighboring venues at Fundação Joaquim Nabuco and the Federal University of the State of Pernambuco. The pieces are winning works from the 2011 competitive show held in São Paulo. The opening event will include a debate featuring Maria do Carmo Nino and Marcelo Coutinho, mediated by Moacir dos Anjos.

The show has four different conceptual sections: Cartographies of affection presents artwork that seeks possible representations to the subjective; Nature and culture comprises pieces that build on the landscape genre; Seeing machines includes optical devices that propose new visions; and finally, Political landscapes carries dilemmas from the social sphere into the visual arts field. Artists include Akraam Zatari, Claudia Joskowicz, Adriano Costa, Liu Wei, Gabriel Mascaro, Dirceu Maués, Carla Zaccagnini, Carolina Caliento, Guilherme Peters, Moran Shavit, Natasha Mendonca, Paulo Nimer Pjota, Regina Parra, Milton Machado, Cacá Vicalvi, Eder Santos, and Sebastián Diaz Morales.

The show’s educational program will train mediators, art educators, and teachers to address contents that enable students, families, and visitors the deepest possible contact with contemporary art, be it through on-site activities, such as educational visits and workshops, or follow-ups to discussion at schools and institutions alike.

Since the 1980s, Videobrasil’s On Tour shows have aimed to multiply the visibility of Southern Panoramas highlights in each Festival edition. Over twenty travelling shows have taken contemporary art to cities in Brazil and abroad.
