The first day of the official program of the 18th Festival of Contemporary Art Sesc_ Videobrasil moves the exhibition spaces of the Sesc Pompeia for the Cinema. On Wednesday, November 06, begins at CineSesc (on Augusta Street) the Video Programs of the Southern Panoramas competitive show of the 18th Festival. At 19h30, the public will see Father's Footsteps, by Vygandas Simbelis (Lithuania), and The Sun Glows over the Mountais, by Nurit Sharett (Israel). At 20h45, the festival presents for artists and curators a special session of its programming: the feature science fiction Deserto Azul, by Eder Santos. Eder, who is the only guest artist in this edition, is part of the trajectory of Videobrasil over these 30 years, participating in 17 of its 18 festivals.

Altogether, 22 video works will be presented in CineSesc, from November 6th to 14th, organized into eight programs. The first theme is History, Return and Belonging.

Deserto Azul is a sci-fi piece shot in Brasília and in Chile’s Atacama Desert, with references to modernism and contemporary art. The feature film is set in an arid, dehumanized future, where a man is tormented by intuitions and recurring dreams of symbols and a desert. He sets out looking for answers to his misgivings, is graced with revelations, meets his soul mate, and tries to reach the place of transcendence described by the film’s title (Blue Desert). The cast features Odilon Esteves, Maria Luiza Mendonça, Ângelo Antônio and Chico Diaz. The cinematographers for Deserto Azul are Pedro Farkas (A Ostra e o Vento, Um Copo de Cólera, Inocência, Os Desafinados and A Marvada Carne) and Stefan Ciupek, a digital postproduction specialist who has worked in the international productions 127 Hours, Antichrist and the Oscar winning film Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The soundtrack was provided by Fernanda Takai (Patu Fu) and the scenery includes works by 11 fine artists of renown in the visual arts world, such as Adriana Varejão, Carlito Carvalhosa, Nydia Negromonte and Rita Meyers, and Eder Santos himself.
