On November 24 (Tuesday), 8pm, a meeting will discuss a text from the publication edited by Lisette Lagnado and videos by Wagner Morales and Roy Dib, as part of the the project An educational immersion: Cadernos Sesc_Videobrasil

On November 24 (Tuesday), 8pm, the Reading Room at Galpão VB will host the second meeting of An educational immersion: Cadernos Sesc_Videobrasil. The starting point for discussion is the article "Mother, medusa" (2009), by literary critic Eliane Robert Moraes, published in Caderno Sesc_Videobrasil 05 — Clio, pátria, edited by the curator Lisette Lagnado.

“Sex in the guise of a face, a face in the form of sex; sex made mask, one might say,”  wrote the historian anthropologist Jean-Pierre Vernant, as quoted by Eliane Robert Moraes. Based on remarks made in "Mother, medusa" about Flávio de Carvalho’s Série Trágica (1947), the meeting sets out to explore the idea that sex, death, and origin are only amenable to be experienced by the individual in a mediated way. The concept also makes its present felt in the conceptions that drove Lagnado in editing the Caderno.

The meeting will look into the connections between the article and the videos Não há ninguém aqui #1 (2000) and Filme de foda (2006), both by Wagner Morales, and both part of the Videobrasil Collection; and the pieces A Spectacle of Privacy (2014) and Mondial 2010 (2014), by Roy Dib. Roy Dib’s two pieces are on display in the Southern Panoramas | Selected Works exhibit at Sesc Pompeia, which is part of the 19th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil.

The themed meetings series titled An educational immersion in the Institution’s current publications: Cadernos Sesc_Videobrasil  looks to add to the discussions in the annual magazine Caderno Sesc_Videobrasil, produced in partnership by Videobrasil and Edições Sesc São Paulo, in association with the Videobrasil Collection and other productions by Associação. In order to invite the public to explore the collection and other contents produced by Videobrasil, reference materials are released in the week that precedes the activity.

Held by the Videobrasil Archive and Research Team, the actions take place fortnightly in the Reading Room, a research facility where visitors have access to a Video Library comprising 1,300-plus video titles; to a visual library arts of 3,000-plus titles; and to PLATFORM:VB. The meetings take place on Tuesdays, when Galpão VB opening hours are extended until 9pm.
