The Dutch organization for culture and international development supports artists, cultural organizations and critical thinkers

The Prince Claus Fund is a Dutch organization for culture and international development that supports artists, cultural organizations and critical thinkers through several programs promoting positive impact in places where the freedom of expression is restricted by conflict, poverty, repression, marginalization and taboo.

Since its foundation in 1996, it has supported more than 2,080 cultural initiatives, distributed prizes to 216 organizations and provided emergency aid to more than 250 vulnerable cultural heritages sites. Since 1997, the Fund has also held the Prince Claus Awards, an important mapping and awarding program for individuals and organizations in the geopolitical South—Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean—whose practices reflect progressive and contemporary perspectives to cultural issues in the context of international development.

Solange O. Farkas, director and curator of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, is a member of the independent international committee that composes the award jury which, in 2017, among others, awarded the Brazilian filmmaker and activist Vincent Carelli, creator of the Vídeo nas Aldeias [Video in the Villages] project.

The Fund offers a series of collaborative programs and special scholarships. In 2018, two of them will open up opportunities for entry: The Prince Claus Network Partnership Grants and the Prince Claus Mobility Fund.

Prince Claus Network Partnership Grants | Registration through March 9

A three-year funding program for cultural organizations focused on social development with the aim of facilitating connections that enable a global network of local support for initiatives and activities in favor of freedom of expression, allowing the regular exchange of practices, cooperation and knowledge sharing inside networks.

In addition to the financial contribution, the program prioritizes the dialogue between the Fund and its many partners, seeking to strengthen its management and structural sustainability, while also promoting the development of talents and the empowerment of local communities.

The deadline for submitting applications is March 9, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. (Amsterdam time).
