Karim Aïnouz's film about the work of Olafur Eliasson will be featured in the 26th São Paulo Short Film Festival – Curta Kinoforum on August 26 and 27. Domingo is the seventh title in the Videobrasil Authors Collection

The film Domingo (Sunday), directed by Karim Aïnouz, is set to be shown at CineSesc and Cinusp on August 26 and 27 (Wednesday and Thursday), respectively at 7:30pm and 4pm. The sessions are part of the Special Programs of the 26th São Paulo Short Film Festival — Curta Kinoforum, one of the world’s largest, most traditional events devoted to the short film format.

The film is an artistic and poetical register of potential connections between the works of Danish visual artist Olafur Eliasson and public spaces in São Paulo. Artworks by Eliasson, such as Your Empathic City (2011), Your new bike (2009), Your felt path (2011), Waterfall (1998), and Your shared planet (2011), exhibited during his first solo show in Latin America (Your Body of Work, held by the 17th edition of the Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil in 2011), are presented in a novel way in this sensitive interpretation proposed by Karim Aïnouz. That was the occasion when the artist and the filmmaker worked together for the first time, when Eliasson juxtaposed colored lights onto images of the Minhocão overpass, captured by Aïnouz, creating a video installation shown at Sesc Pompeia. In the exhibition book, featuring photographs by Eliasson and Aïnouz, the artist makes special mention of the filmmaker, and thanks him for being “an amplifier of sensibility.”

The film premiered in 2014 at the leading Brazilian festivals – the 38th São Paulo International Film Festival, and the 2014 Rio Festival – and had special sessions at Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura (Fortaleza, Brazil), at Museu de Arte do Rio (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and at the Cinema South Festival (Sderot, Israel).

Domingo is the seventh title in the Videobrasil Authors Collection, a series of documentaries directed by guest filmmakers and designed to familiarize the public with the thoughts and work processes of prominent contemporary artists. Domingo is one of Karim Aïnouz’s works in the Videobrasil Collection – the other one is the video Sertão de acrílico azul piscina, which he co-directed with Marcelo Gomes.
