The work takes a behind‐the‐scenes peek at the ringing of a festive peal of bells at a church in São João Del Rey, Minas Gerais. In a dangerous choreography, a group of bell ringers tug and toll a one‐ton bell that swings with increasing speed. The work draws meanings from the repetition and resources of the performance. Movements, materials, and sounds—which, in the case of the bell, are capable of blending into the sensorial landscape of a town—vie to create an immaterial collective identity.
