The performance O Gabinete de Chico (Chico's Cabinet), by Chelpa Ferro, consisted in a live music presentation combined with projections of edited, pre-recorded images. The music was an original blend of musical instruments and objects producing unconventional sounds, such as an orange juicer, bells, and a knife sharpener. The sounds created by the six components of the group were directly integrated to the images.

The integration of music, sounds and images created by an eclectic group of artists.

O Gabinete de Chico is a live performance integrated with the projection of pre-recorded and edited images. Music is obtained from a peculiar combination of musical instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards) and objects capable of producing quite unorthodox sounds such as bells, an orange juice squeezer and a knife sharpener. The sonorous concoction produced by six musicians is directly linked to a sequence of projected video images, edited live from a makeshift studio in a room adjoining the stage.

This performance is a remarkable example of the projects Chelpa Ferro have been working on since 1992. The Chelpa Ferro group was formed with an interesting combination of talent, bringing together four persons from different professional backgrounds: Luiz Zerbini, an artist and painter, who pegan his career in the 80’s, has exhibited his work at the most important Brazilian art galleries and also works as set designer for musical shows; Barrão, a sculptor and creator of installations, has also been working with computer art; Sérgio Meckler, film and video editor, is a two-time winner at the Video Music Awards (MTV Brasil); and Chico Neves, a musician specializing in musical production, has worked with many famous musicians and singers such as Fernanda Abreu, Paralamas do Sucesso and Lenine.

The association of these four individuals was spontaneous, initially motivated by the production of a joint CD in 1996 and released last year. Before this event, however, they used to get together occasionally, forming partnerships which resulted in one installation and a few public presentations. O Gabinete de Chico, specially conceived for Videobrasil, was inspired by a text adapted from and old encyclopedia and employed in the performance. Two musicians, Dado Villla-Lobos and Carlos Laufer, join the four stable members of the Chelpa Ferro group for this presentation.
