Opportunities for artists from the Southern geopolitical scene

With an extended deadline until January 31, the 2013 Exhibition Program open call is selecting projects from artists for shows on the CCSP’s Piso Caio Graco. Since its inception, in 1990, the Program has fostered debate on contemporary art by proposing an overview of recent production, presenting work from Brazil-based start-up artists, and pieces by artists invited by the CCSP Visual Arts Curating Program. Aiming to light critically how the contemporary art economy influences the political agency and interaction of artistic expression in African societies, next issue of Seismopolite Journal of Art and Politics is selecting paper until February 20th. Until March 1, the Animafest Zagreb Festival is accepting animated film entries lasting 60 minutes or longer. The Festival will run from June 4 to 9. Artists from all over the world are eligible, and the competition will award a Grand Prize (best feature film), a Special Prize granted by the jury, and an Audience Prize. Up until March 1, Pro Helvetia is accepting entries for its three-month residency program in either an Arab country, India, China, South Africa or Switzerland. The residency aims to encourage production through contact with different cultural contexts, create collaborative networks, and foster new projects and cooperation. The 13th Istanbul Biennial artist selection process will be carried out by Fulya Erdemci, the Biennial’s curator, whose ongoing research work covers Turkey and other countries. Email-only entries will remain open until March 1, and are limited to a maximum size of 8MB. Learn more on the Biennial website.

The European Cultural Foundation awards collaborative scholarships to cultural organizations in several European countries, plus Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, the State of Palestine, Syria, and Tunisia. The ECF will issue the open call for this year’s program on February 1 and the deadline is March 25. For further information, go to the ECF website.

The Swatch Art Peace Hotel Artist Residency is accepting proposals for its six-month artistic residency program in Shanghai, China, with no deadline for submissions. Artists from any country may apply with projects in various artistic languages, such as dancing, music, photography, painting etc. See the website for additional information.
