Videobrasil gathers video pioneers in Rio de Janeiro
The experimentations of Olhar Eletrônico and TVDO productions defined aesthetics and pointed to new paths for video practices in Brazil throughout the 1980's. At that time, Videobrasil Festival was the only means of screening video art pieces for many local artists, housing and awarding their works.
Five fundamental names of that period will meet up on next Thursday to reminisce on these experiences. Solange Farkas, founder and director of Associação Cultural Videobrasil; Tadeu Jungle and Walter Silveira, both from TVDO, creators of historical programs such as Mocidade Independente (Band) and Máquina do Som (TV Cultura); Marcelo Tas, who long before the CQC show, enraged politicians and celebrities using his alter ego Ernesto Varela; and Sandra Kogut, director of videos which pushed the boundaries of music video experimentations, as in Kátia Flávia, a Godiva do Irajá (by Fausto Fawcett e os Robôs Efêmeros).
In this panel will be discussed the radical experiences and resources struggles at that time, as well as the historical context and how it influenced each of the participant's careers. 30 Years of Videobrasil takes place at Windsor Barra Hotel's Room 3, at 5:30 p.m.
RioContentMarket gathers producers and buyers from television and digital media industries, undertaken by the Brazilian TV Independent Producers Association (ABPITV).
