On November 14, the curator Diego Matos will guide a tour of the 19th Festival’s parallel exhibition at Paço das Artes. The city of São Paulo is taken as starting point to explore the narratives that permeate the show

Guided tours of Those Born for Adventure don’t Stray from the Path – Artworks from the Videobrasil Collection, a show running parallel to the 19th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil | Southern Panoramas, will take place at Paço das Artes. Curator Diego Matos, the archive and research coordinator of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, will run the activities, serving as moderator between the public and sixteen Videobrasil Collection pieces on display.

The curator has devised two themed tour itineraries. On November 14 (Saturday) at 4pm, the itinerary Brazil, São Paulo – a Place for Departure will focus on the geographical space where the show is taking place and where the history of Videobrasil began: the city of São Paulo. The narratives that permeate the artworks will be explored during the visit, emphasizing the deconstruction of the notion of place and the distortion of the space-time relationship. On January 9, 2016 (Saturday), at 4pm, the curator will guide visitors along the itinerary Video in the Political Arena of Art, intended to reveal the political contents of artistic practices. Participation is free of charge and open to the public.

Those born for adventure don’t stray from the path – artworks from the Videobrasil Collection features sixteen Videobrasil  Collection pieces that indirectly deepen the reflections elicited by this edition of the Festival, whose entire program revolves around the global South and its myriad issues. Works by key Brazilian video artists of the likes of Cao Guimarães, Carlos Nader, Cristiano Lenhardt (who is participating in the 19th Festival with a commissioned project), João Moreira SallesKarim Aïnouz and Marcelo Gomes establish connections with pieces by Peru’s Gabriel Acevedo, Israel’s Nurit Sharett (featured in the latest São Paulo Art Biennial) and Algeria’s Malek Bensmaïl, among others. The show will continue at Paço das Artes until January 10, 2016 and mediation actions coordinated by the Paço das Artes educational team will be conducted throughout the exhibition.

The exhibitions and curatorial programs based on the Videobrasil Collection is the primary strategy for activating said collection. These actions constantly update the collection artworks, putting them in touch with the public and making them available to new critical interpretations that attest to their relevance within the current scenario.
